one nation… under dog?

11 Dec

just for the record…

this is Underdog:

and I don’t know what the hell this is:

…but it’s not Underdog.

I mean…how’s a real dog going to be a shoeshine boy? Upon which paw will he wear the special ring with the secret compartment that contains his “Underdog Super Energy Pill”?

I’m normally all about remakes and sequels and the re-imagining of old properties if, and only if, the core idea is not destroyed. It also helps if there are some improvements.

When Peter Jackson originally announced his plan to remake King Kong I wasn’t really too interested, but he made it work. So I’m not completely discounting Underdog at this point, but I can tell you that the only thing I want to see less than this movie is Uwe Boll‘s next project.

I wholeheartedly agree; the upcoming movie looks to me like it will be an enormous pile of what real dogs produce. I loved watching Underdog cartoons years ago, and I still enjoy them today; to see this animation icon bastardized in this way makes me sick to my stomach.

Why do the Hollywood Hollowheads feel the need to acquire the rights to perfectly good shows, movies, etc., and then completely ruin them? If they want to make a parody of something, why not create a whole new character for the purpose? Johnny English and Austin Powers, for example, were great parodies of spy movies; nobody took and twisted James Bond to make those films. If someone wanted to make fun of the current stream of superhero movies, why not create an unrelated character with a name like Power Pooch?

first of all, this is a movie for kids, not fanboys and secondly, i don’t think that many mom’s of today’s children will enjoy a superhero dog that carries around “pill’s” that make him “super” so maybe you could chew that over before judging a movie by it’s previews.

I think they have completely ruind underdog!!!!!!! Why would you take and just ruin it? I wish Hollywood would just leave poor underdog alone. My sister and I both enjoy wathing the old classic cartoon, and to see Hollywood destroy it makes us sick and disipontied. LEAVE UNDERDOG ALONE!!!!!!

“calling it ‘Underdog’ instead of ‘Power Pooch’ is deliberate and designed to draw in the fans of the old show…”

Ironically, most European peoples haven’t even seen the Underdog series and this movie was–guess what–made by a European that wanted to make a buck off another “talking animal” film, nevermind the fact that he was ruining a beloved cultural icon (on the DVDs, co-creator Joe Harris said Underdog was everywhere during the 60’s and became family to everyone…even actors like Tom Hanks)!
