The Dark Knight trailer (and international posters)

It’s been a while since I’ve shared*, but the comic geek inside me couldn’t pass this one up. The sequel to Batman Begins finally has more than a teaser trailer. There are two new international posters and a new website with the first official full trailer. The teaser wasn’t worth mentioning and I feel the same way about the domestic poster so you will have to find those on your own. Here are the cool posters:

*There are a couple good reasons why it’s been so long between posts on this site. First, I work around 60 hours a week now and that leaves little time for finding cool things on the internet to share. And second, I may be moving this site from wordpress to a more legit location in the (somewhat) near future. Stay tuned for more details.

dragons, aliens, predators and cloverfield-flavored slusho

Dragon Wars | Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem | 01-18-08 (Slusho?)

Dragon Wars trailer
(D-Wars? …seriously?)

As a select few of you already know I am teaching myself to be a screenwriter and I have a half dozen or so scripts in various stages of production. One of those projects is a dragon story so you can imagine the shock I experienced when I saw a poster for this movie plastered on a wall in L.A. Now that I’ve seen the trailer I’m not sure what to think. It almost doesn’t seem serious, like someone said let’s replace “snakes” with “dragons” and “on a plane” with “all over the planet”…except that might even be giving the movie a compliment. This seems more like a XXX or a Fast and the Furious type “end of the world” story and that doesn’t really excite me at all.

Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem Red Band (R-Rated) Trailer

Speaking of terrible movies that I hated…the first Alien vs. Predator movie seemed like it could have had some potential, but, unfortunately, Paul W.S. Anderson was involved and he makes beautifully filmed pieces of garbage that make no sense. This next installment in the franchise looks like it was lifted from the original 1989 Dark Horse comics story. The setting is Earth instead of some random colony planet and the comic is not credited, but it looks like it has a similar plot and has the correct look and feel. Plus, it has Reiko Aylesworth (Michelle Dessler from 24) in it, and even better, it’s totally violent in all the right ways. They definitely went the right direction with the rating on this one since even the trailer is age-restricted. (edit: it will also have a half-alien, half-predator creature that they’re calling a predalien. no comment.)

and just to round the creature updates off at three:

Abrams 1-18-08
01-18-08 trailer

I’m sure everyone has already encountered the trailer for the Untitled J.J. Abrams Project codenamed “Cloverfield”, but it fits with the theme so I’m including it here. Hopefully it won’t be called Monstrous, Cloverfield or Slusho* when they finally pick a name. (edit: apparently it will be called Cloverfield because that is the military designation for the monster, which at least makes a little sense.)

Slusho: You can’t drink just six.

*Paramount apparently gave out “slusho” shirts at comic-con this year to promote the nameless film.

Iron Man trailer (and new TV spot!)

Iron Man trailer

I am huge comic geek and I’ve read some of the comics, but I’ve never been a particularly big fan of Iron Man. If the trailer is any indication, then that is about to change: it looks like I may be a big fan of Iron Man sometime next year. I might even like him as much as I like Jon Favreau by then. Maybe.
Also: I can’t believe they used the Black Sabbath song…I guess they pretty much had to, and it works, but I’m still surprised. Tell me what you think when you watch it.

there’s a new TV spot and it’s pretty darn cool. (same link)

30 Days of Night HD trailer

30 Days of Night was one of the better graphic novels from 2002 and if you’ve not yet read the comic I highly recommend it. I’ve been waiting to see what they were going to do with the project since it was first announced. (and I still regret not finishing the sequel, Dark Days, because it started out great.) Now there’s finally a trailer and it looks like they came about as close as possible to recreating the look of the comic art.

since everyone is talking about Spider-Man

I watched it, but instead of a review I’m going to share this:

“You got your Spider-Man in my Voltron!” “Your mariachi ruined my samurai!”

Final (?) Spider-Man 3 trailer online

Comcast has the exclusive final Spider-Man 3 trailer in HD

I guess it gives so much of the story away that it has to be the final trailer, but are they really going to coast the entire last month before the movie opens without sharing something new? Maybe they’ll configure a bunch of new TV spots from the already released footage.

(edit: the “final” trailer now ever-so-slightly different footage. I knew they couldn’t leave it alone for so long.)

the 10 Year Anniversary of Buffy

joss whedon and the season 5 cast of buffy the vampire slayer
On March 10, 1997, Buffy the Vampire Slayer premiered on the The WB. Despite being based on a unsuccessful motion picture, the TV show lasted for seven seasons and changed the face of televison forever. It was so influential that you’ve probably felt it’s impact on pop culture even if you’ve never watched the show. And I highly recommend watching if you haven’t yet…now would be a great time to start because Buffy Season 8 will be starting soon.

Joss Whedon writes Buffy Season 8 (!)

Buffy the Vampire Slayer will continue where season 7 left off this March…in a comic book.

buffy.

Joss Whedon is writing the first story arc and says that the series will be “canon in the Buffy-verse”. Some of the other writers will be Brian K. Vaughan, Jeph Loeb, Brad Meltzer, Jane Espenson, Drew Goddard, Drew Greenberg and Steven DeKnight. You might recognize some of those names from the Television show. The art for the comic will be by Georges Jeanty, and I hope to like it half as much as Karl Moline’s art from Fray.
